Network Rail depot building, £100k air conditioning and MVHR solution as part of a major refurbishment
Sub-Cool FM were called in to support the main contractor, by delivering a comprehensive air conditioning and ventilation system across the site to the value of £100,000. The depot building houses some 200 Network Rail workers and consists of upper floors of offices, and ground floor large canteen and clean-up area with showers and locker rooms. This job was part of a major refurbishment to the depot and the station which was reported in local newspapers.

Commercial ceiling cassette air conditioning solution alongside MVHR
Due to the size of the building, 20 Panasonic VSR 4-way blow ceiling cassette units were installed across the site. These are efficient units with invert compressors to optimise performance.
An MVHR heat recovery and ventilation system was also installed to improve the quality of the air within the building. This system takes out stale air and brings fresh air in. It works intelligently to make the most of heat within a building. These systems are becomingly more popular for the multi-benefits they offer. They offer effective and efficient heating and cooling, improved air quality and low-carbon, environmental options.
Challenges
Time scales and health and safety
Due to the scale of the job, it went on over 2 months and included delivery to some tight deadlines to work in line with the project schedule and ensure the building was unavailable to staff for the minimum time and with minimum disruption.
It was also carried out to a full 6-point Personal Protective Equipment process with rigorous health and safety measures at all times.
