Project and equipment

The Leeds Magistrates project involved the replacement and upgrade of key mechanical plant serving the building, with a focus on improving long-term reliability, system efficiency and overall control. The works included the installation of modern Panasonic R290 chillers, upgraded pumps and associated mechanical equipment, all selected to provide a more efficient and future-ready solution for the site. Due to the scale and location of the equipment, the project required careful planning, including a night-time crane lift, partial road closure, pedestrian management and the installation of anti-terrorism barriers to maintain public safety throughout the operation.

Installation & Site Coordination

The Leeds Magistrates project required careful planning due to the location of the building and the scale of the mechanical plant being replaced. As the site sits within a busy city-centre environment, the works involved several key challenges:

Live Site Environment: The building remained operational, meaning works had to be planned to minimise disruption to staff, visitors and daily site activity.

City-Centre Location: Limited access around the building created logistical challenges for deliveries, lifting operations and plant movement.

Night-Time Crane Lift: The new equipment had to be lifted into position overnight, requiring detailed coordination and a controlled lifting plan.

Partial Road Closure: A partial road closure was required to safely complete the crane lift and manage vehicle and pedestrian access.

Public Safety Measures: Anti-terrorism barriers were installed to secure the working area and protect nearby public routes.
