Completion
We were delighted to be involved in an innovative, energy-efficient Scandia Hus new build from the very start of the project with a great local West Sussex client. Being consulted in the design stage allowed us to help meet the bespoke requirements of this amazing property. We delivered a Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery (MVHR) system alongside ducted air conditioning.

Perfect home comfort
The project is now complete – an amazing home. It’s well-insulated and air-tight and has fresh air and the perfect controllable temperature all year round. See below for the full journey from drawing board to completion.

The need for MHVR and air conditioning in this bespoke domestic build project
To ensure the supply of fresh air and the extraction of stale air, these energy-efficient constructions work well with a Mechanical Ventilation and Heat Recovery system which meets all the building regulations that go alongside them.
Having previous building experience – particularly with a timber frame house – the client had first-hand experience of the need for air conditioning to manage the summer temperatures of such a property. He considered air conditioning crucial to ‘future-proof’ the house and secure year-round comfort, especially with young children around.
In addition, being able to control the temperature from the inside allowed:
- Windows to be kept closed in the summer when necessary to avoid the unwelcome creepy crawlies from the nearby forest and around.
- Avoidance of the smoke and fumes of local neighbours burning wood
- Improved security and safety for the house

Equipment - Why Mitsubishi Electric?
Mitsubishi Electric is the Rolls Royce of air conditioning. Parts come with a whopping 7-year warranty and are readily available. They also can connect clients to the excellent Control 4 Home automation system, which is highly popular and offers many smart benefits. This home has many smart systems in place.
The cost £24,700
This includes MVHR thorough the entire house and 6 rooms fully climate-controlled.

AFTER - THE FINISHED PROJECT
Kitchen and living spaces
The large kitchen and main living space is a great feature in this home. In addition to MVHR vents throughout, we also fitted an almost invisible grill above the kitchen units to allow for air conditioning. There is also a surprisingly spacious cool room / larder which is kept chilled, hidden behind one of the unit.

Children's bedrooms
Fresh air and cooling
Through discreet ducts behind small squares on the ceiling, fresh air is delivered to the children’s bedrooms, old air removed, and through the same duct, air conditioning and cooling ensure a good night’s sleep in the height of summer. These discreet square ducts are also placed in landing areas of the house.

Bedrooms and bathrooms
Embedded hidden units
A grill over the wardrobe manages the air in this bedroom. For total discretion the air conditioning unit is hidden inside the ceiling of the wardrobe and accessed via a hatch.

With heating rising and large sunny windows, the room below has air conditioning grills to control the temperature. These face into the room by the door. Air vents extend to the bathroom and dressing rooms of this property.

Design features
Stylish house with discreet systems
The client wanted the fresh air systems to be discreet and to blend into the general design of the house. With a geometric feel elsewhere in the home, square covers were used throughout for the vents.

Outdoor units
Hideaway for outdoor units
In keeping with the high finish aesthetics of the house, the outdoor climate control and air conditioning units are all hidden behind a purpose-built wooden area for easy access and maintenance, but out of sight and playing areas of children.
